Aaron R. Smith:

THE ODDBIRD

Aaron Smith is a writer, filmmaker, and artist based in Los Angeles.

Educated at the University of Iowa, Aaron carries bachelor’s degrees in both Film and Journalism. Upon graduating, Aaron moved to California to get his start working in production including TV shows ranging from “True Blood” to “G.L.O.W.” and films like “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Friends With Benefits,” and “Downsizing.” Working on independent features, Aaron’s collaborations in production have been selected at festivals such as Sundance and SXSW.

He also once interviewed the Valley West Mall Easter Bunny for his middle school newspaper. Talk about name dropping!

As a writer, Aaron was featured in Deadline as one of Coverfly’s “Best Unrepped Writers” for 2023.

From Coverfly:

“Always looking to challenge himself and try something new, Aaron’s portfolio speaks to both his fearlessness to approach the world in a new way and his focus on flawed yet endlessly relatable characters.”

Aaron has had multiple works on the Blacklist website’s Top List as well as Coverfly’s Red List along with notoriety at contests including winning “Top Comedy” at the 10th Annual LaunchPad TV Writing Competition and multiple successes at the Austin Film Festival, Script Pipeline, and the Nicholl Fellowship. Living on borrowed time since age 13, Aaron uses that levity and his “Iowa Nice” upbringing to explore complex characters in existential conflict with their environments through bold, genre-contorting stories with emotions universal to viewers.

Join him as he shares the works that prompted a British man to once call him… “an Odd Bird.”
